Why a no-deposit rental matters in Bali

Most street shops in Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu or Seminyak ask for a passport or a stack of cash before handing you the keys. Here's what changes when you rent with us.

    Typical street rental

    • Passport held at the shop until return
    • 1–3 million IDR cash deposit required
    • No written contract or invoice
    • Damage charges decided on the spot
    • No refund if your plans change

    Vroam — no deposit, ever

    • Your passport stays with you, always
    • Zero cash deposit at delivery
    • Secure online payment, fixed price
    • Damage liability capped with our Damage Protection
    • Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup

    How no-deposit booking works

Three simple steps — no surprises, no haggling, no documents left behind.

    Book & pay online

Pick your bike, dates and address. Pay the full booking price securely. No deposit added at any step.

    Get the bike delivered

Our partner shop drops the scooter at your hotel or villa with helmets and a phone holder. Sign and ride.

    Keep your documents

Your passport and license stay in your pocket. Just bring your IDP if requested by police.

Why Vroam can offer zero-deposit rentals

Street shops in Bali rely on cash deposits and passports because they have no way to recover money if something goes wrong. We solved that with a different model.

Every Vroam booking is tied to a verified online payment, an identified customer, and a clear contract. Our team handles customer support, damage assessment and dispute resolution end to end — so the rental shop doesn't need to hold collateral, and you don't need to worry about scams.

Combined with our optional Damage Protection, you ride knowing the worst-case cost is bounded — without ever handing over your passport. Read the full terms in our rental terms and protection policy.

A note on legality: In Indonesia, rental shops aren't allowed to keep your passport. If a shop asks for it, walk away. Our Bali scooter rental laws guide explains your rights as a rider.

    FAQ

No-deposit rental — your questions answered

Do I really pay no deposit when renting a scooter in Bali with Vroam?+

Correct. Vroam never asks for a cash deposit, a passport, or a driving license to be left at the shop. You pay your rental online when you book and that's it — your documents stay with you for the entire trip.

Why do most Bali scooter rental shops ask for a deposit or your passport?+

Local street rentals usually ask for 1–3 million IDR in cash or your passport as collateral against damage or non-return. Because Vroam works with verified partner shops and processes payments securely online, this collateral is not needed.

How does Vroam protect the bike without a deposit?+

Every booking is tied to a verified online payment, an identified customer profile, and our terms & conditions. If anything happens, we can charge the card on file for late returns, recovery fees or damage above the optional Damage Protection cap — exactly as described in our terms.

    Is a card pre-authorization the same as a deposit?+

No. Vroam never blocks funds on your card as a security deposit. You only pay the booking amount you see at checkout. Damage Protection (if you add it) caps your maximum out-of-pocket exposure at IDR 500,000 per incident.

What if I damage the scooter — will Vroam suddenly charge a deposit?+

No surprise charges. If you took our optional Damage Protection, your liability is capped at IDR 500,000 per claim. Without it, repair costs are billed at fair market price and our team negotiates with the shop on your behalf so you never overpay.

Do I need to leave any document at the shop?+

No passport, no driving license, no ID card. Bring your International Driving Permit (IDP) and home country license to ride legally in Bali, but they always stay in your pocket — never with the rental shop.

Are there other scooter rentals in Bali with no deposit?+

Very few. The vast majority of street shops in Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Seminyak or Sanur still ask for a cash deposit or your passport. Vroam is one of the only platforms in Bali offering verified scooter rentals with zero deposit and zero document collateral.

Can I rent multiple bikes with no deposit?+

Yes. Whether you book one scooter or several for a group trip, Vroam never asks for a deposit, regardless of how many bikes are in your booking.
